I have recently been having migraines. I made an appointment with a dr. but I am not sure what to expect. Migraines run in my family. What are they caused from? What should I expect the dr. to do about them? They aren’t constant just about once a month or so. I’ve been having them for about 5 months now. Anyone have any experience with migraines and any advice for me?

My doctor has prescribed a triptan drug to try – I haven’t had an attack yet (typical). I know I need to take it as soon as a migraine starts, however if it doesn’t work, can I follow it up with a dose of either paracetamol or ibuprofen as I would for a normal attack? Or is it just a case of tough luck, it hasn’t worked?
