migraines?
Katie asked:
I have gotten migraines for the past 8 years with at least 4 a month. I am missing out on a lot because I am unable to do anything when having one. Does anyone know of something that can help?

migraine cures

Have you told your doctor?
When I had them so bad that there wasn’t a day I didn’t have symptoms my doctor gave me depakote. Which is traditionally used for people who are bipolar but has the side effect of working on migraines. And it did wonders. The problem with this particular medicine is how it can effect some of the organs so your doctor has to keep up your blood work.
Also have you tried the over the counter migraine medicines?
Do you know your triggers? This is a very simple way of warding off a migraine, by knowing what foods or activities trigger them for you and avoiding them. Oddly enough, one of mine is caffeine which us why I needed the stringer medicine [othe rmigraine meds contain caffeine].
symptoms of migraine headache
I’m a migraine sufferer myself, and I’ve found that many preservatives in packaged foods cause the headaches.
MSG (Monosodium Glutamate)
Sodium Benzoate
Sodium Nitrate
…..are the top three that I know affect me. MSG gives me a headache within minutes of eating it, and the pain can last for 2-3 days. For this reason, I can’t eat my favorite ranch flavored chips anymore.
If you eat such foods, be aware of what’s listed in the back of the packages, cans, bottles, etc.
Before I knew to cut out the preservatives, my headaches were so bad that I couldn’t function for days. I spent days in bed suffering. I’d found the only way to watch TV was to wear really dark sunglasses, and there was still pain. I may have looked funny (and maybe kinda cool LOL), but it was the only way when I wanted to be in the same room as the TV and my family members.
Some Chinese foods in restaurants contain MSG, but in some cases, you can ask if it’s possible that they leave it out of your serving. Some restaurants have notices that let you know if they use MSG or not.
Other than seeing a doctor for medication, I can only suggest avoiding the perservatives as much as possible and avoid loud noises and bright lights when you can.
You might want to alternate using a heat pack and a cold pack on your head and neck.
You might find more info on the webmd site.
Feel better.
migraine headaches treatment
First, get a blood pressure monitor. When you feel a migraine coming on or are hit with a migraine take your blood pressure. Write down the reading, take your meds and get rid of the migraine. Take your blood pressure again. If you notice a huge difference in the reading then you may have found one reason for the migraine. Next, there is a daily med out that can control migraines ATENOLOL its a beta blocker and blood pressure control med. It can be given in low doses for migraine control. Available by prescription only. Been there, done that.
Second option. What are your migraine triggers? When you get a migraine try to remember what you have eaten in the past 24 hours.
Dairy?

Go in a quiet, dark room when you feel one coming on. Also put a cold compress on the back of your neck, this help the vessels dialate, and thus helps your head. Good luck!
migraine during pregnancy
Yes. Pl see what suits you.
If you are in cold country use all warm things.
Pl try cold water bath and observe if in hot country, if pain increases use warm.
If you have cough/cold body hot water bath will help.
Massage and exercise in front of morning sun is good thing, pl try.
Pl try simple acupressure given below for immediate relief.
If it fails you will have to go for Acupuncture.
There is hardly any medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for RA, OA, Back ache, Ear ache/ringing, Stomach ache and almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.
Acidity, WORRY, sadness, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation; drug side effects, stress, bad smell, TV & COMPUTER SOMETIMES, Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy, BODY CONSTITUTION etc are their causes.
None of them can be treated with medicine.
Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.
Acupuncture is the best treatment.
I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.
Pain killers don’t treat the pain but we loose the sense of pain for some time; in that duration our body itself treats sometime and credit goes to meds.
The useless drugs have tremendous power of side effects like liver/kidney failures, ulcer, inflammation of intestines and lot more.
Avoid late sleeping if possible; worry, tension, spicy foods, sour fruits, stale bakery foods, SMOKING and alcohole.
Sweet foods, COCOANUT WATER,sweet fruits like dates, milk, rice, SPROUTS, SALADS and good sleep will help if cough is not there.
But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves’ juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it is very strong.
If it is acute pl search a painful point (with round tipped pen/jimmy) 3-6 mm behind your thumb nail and press it, H/A will disappear within 30 seconds.
For forehead/eye pain the points are in front of nails on the finger tips or 3-7 mm below.
It may disappear naturally too.

migraine sufferers
Yes, you can do plenty of things to prevent it! I once had 2 years of non stop migraine and after seeing a doctor, changing my lifestyle etc, my migraine is much better managed. It is now probable once a month or once every 2 months…
First, you will need to see a doctor, if you can, get one that specialises in headaches.
Get them to give you an all clear that it is nothing but a migraine.
If is a migraine, there are some things you can do to prevent these.
First, you might want to keep a headache diary as migraines can be set off by triggers. This is the best way to minimise your migraine attack.
Whenever you have a migraine, write down the day, date, time, what you have eaten for that day, how long the migraine has lapsed, the pain score (from 1-10, 1 being the least), emotional factor (what was mood, were you feeling depressed, angry or stressed?), what medication have you taken to lessen the pain, and the pain score after the medication.
From there, you might be able to spot patterns like certain food triggers your migraine, or certain days eg mondays because you are in a rush so you didn’t eat breakfast thus lack of food therefore migraine.
What about time? Are you in a very hot or cold place at a particular time? That could trigger migraines. Fluctuating weather and temperature could also trigger migraine. A change in season too. Some people can predict weather by their offset in migraines.
What about stress? Some people get migraine when they are extremely stressful, especially during examination periods, year end job review and so on… That could easily set off a migraine attack…
What about menstrual migraine? some people get migraine before their menses…
Sometimes it is medication overuse. Popping too much over-the-counter painkillers can cause rebound headache. If you realise that you need painkillers almost everyday and you pop a lot of painkillers each day, it could be a sign of rebound headache.
Why not you try keeping a headache diary for a month. Then try to spot patterns. From there, see if you can make changes in your lifestyle and hopefully reduce migraine in your life.
After avoiding the triggers, you can try preventative medications like topamax or beta blockers like proprananolol or tricyclic like amitriptyline, these are the more common drugs use to prevent migraines.
Lastly, before a migraine start, you would have a prodrome. Do you have a particular food craving or mood swings?
During a prodrome, try taking metoclopramide, it might reduces the migraine or even prevent it.
See a doctor. They would be able to go through with you all your options base on your medical history.
